A PASSION FOR COLOUR TEXTURE AND MAKING

Pincushion Tapestry
Born 1960 Rivonia, Johannesburg – South Africa.
Studied FINE ART at the RUTH PROWSE SCHOOL of ART in Cape Town 1978 – 1981.
BEST TEACHERS LIFE AND OBSERVATION…Erik Laubscher, David Brown, Stephanie Watson and Michael Petit.
ERIK LAUBSCHER taught us the classics of oil painting with no exceptions. We were sent to the school shop and ordered to buy all the requirements for oil painting. We were not allowed to bend the material. However, we did start a love affair with the smell of turpentine and linseed oil and the art of layering, which has developed over the years into an exciting adventure in painting making.
STEPHANIE WATSON on the other hand welcomed us to her class but said we were not allowed to bring a paintbrush. At first, as students we were confused. Fingers, sticks, cloth and broken brushes were all welcomed. It was in these classes that my love for mixed media really began.

COMBINATION OF ART AND BUSINESS
Quality and practicality in creativity have always been of prime importance to me.
My first business “TEXTURES” was an interior accessories company for the decor market. Painted wooden product. Room divider screens to table mats, wall finishes and painted floors were all designed as one of a kind originals. The technical teams of the paint companies refused to take responsibility for any paint failure due to experimentation, my mixed media training helped me stand my ground. The TEXTURES corporate logo went on to win an international design award in NEW YORK.
INDIGO ORANGE
A shop designed for handmade product from many different talents for the decor market. Artists and Crafters in Cape Town were involved.
FREEHAND FABRICS

THE CERAMIC COMPANY
A lovely ceramics shop with large terracotta pots and many different ceramic artists supplying. I managed and painted bisque ware and tiles for the showroom.
MY OWN GALLERY ON THESEN ISLAND KNYSNA SOUTH AFRICA
A CO-OP FOR ARTISTS ON THESEN ISLAND.
2010 DECOR PROJECT ON THESEN ISLAND a community project for the decorating of the ISLAND and Knysna central for the 2010 WORLD CUP.

TIMBERLAKE THE BEAUTY OF WASTE – Another awareness building recycled waste project.

Twenty years ago I settled down to painting full time and have been busy ever since.
I currently live on the Garden Route in South Africa and work from my home studio. I see myself as a painting maker, so product, community and living life as closely to my creative truth as possible is hugely important and continues to be a great adventure.
